Ideas for a Country Kitchen

If you want to channel the gorgeous charm of a country kitchen in your home, you'll need to opt for particular materials, colours, and finishes that evoke a rustic vibe. Here are several ideas to help you create your ideal space.

1. Cabinetry

The cabinetry is a great place to start when remodelling in this style. Install white timber-style cupboard doors with contoured panels that add detail and dimension. White or cream painted wooden doors are ideal. You can fit ornate vintage handles or install simple pull knobs painted in the same colour. Because the cabinetry covers such a vast area, once you've installed the right design, the kitchen will already have begun channelling a farmhouse vibe.

2. Shelves

You could also establish under other timber elements to harmonise with the cupboards. For instance, construct a mantle-shelf on the wall above the stove if the kitchen layout permits, on which you could place vintage items like clocks, scales, or coffee grinders that you might find at a garage sale or antique store. Contouring underneath the mantle could mimic a traditional fireplace mantle. Otherwise, connect simple shelves. You could store crockery on top and fit hooks underneath for hanging pots and pans. Another idea is to install custom-designed contoured edging around the window frame.

3. Flooring

Possible floor options include timber planks, and ceramic or natural stone tiles. Wood floorboards give kitchens a cosy feel, the ideal mood for this aesthetic. Alternatively, natural stone tiles contribute to the look because of their organic nature. Ceramic tiles help by looking timeless and classic.

A modern option that can engender an old-world feel is polished concrete. The cement on these floors is full of aggregates such as gravels that leave natural patterns on the surface once polished. These floors can be buffed to a honed or shiny finish, whichever you prefer. Concrete gives the rawness of natural stone, but it doesn't display join lines, so the area will feel open and more spacious.

4. Kitchen Table

Of course, a country kitchen demands a rectangular table, around which friends and family can relax, chat, or read the paper. You can choose from a variety of woods with different patinas, some paler and others are darker. A warm honey timber will feel friendly and warm. To perfect your scenic kitchen table, hang a beautiful vintage pendant light overhead. You can combine this with other lights around the kitchen to create comfortable and even illumination in all areas.

Redesigning the Rooms in Your Home

Hello, my name is Damian and this blog is full of useful tips that I picked up when I was redesigning the rooms in my home. I recently moved into a new home and I really didn't like the decor. I tried to remodel it myself but I made a bit of a mess. Finally, my wife talked me into calling in a professional team of remodelling contractors who consulted with us before doing a perfect job. I now love the way my home looks. I decided to start this blog to encourage others to remodel their homes. I hope you enjoy it.
